The Hyundai N74 and RN22e are nowhere near production it seems, but Hyundai has graced us with something totally unexpected. A sporty, performance-oriented version of their docile IONIQ 5 electric SUV. Named the IONIQ 5 N (N representing the Nürburgring Test Track and Namyang R&D Center), the IONIQ 5 N is the first performance-oriented electric SUV released by the South Korean brand. Hyundai IONIQ 5 N: Horsepower, Range, and Performance Features

The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N features dual electric motors paired with a beefy 84.0 kWh battery; a massive upgrade from the regular IONIQ 5 ‘s 77.4 kWh battery pack. With these new upgrades, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N delivers a jaw-dropping 601 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque.  Need more power? Activate ” N Grin Boost” and receive a temporary 10-second boost to 641 horsepower!
Range figures are still unknown, but many automotive journalists and fans agree on the 200-250 mile range mark. It’s still unclear, but the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N will most likely come with 2 years of complimentary 30-minute DC Charging sessions through Electrify America along with a 10%-80% charging time of under 30 minutes.

The IONIQ 5 N offers much more performance features other than its electrifying performance (pun intended). For starters, the frame of the IONIQ 5 N has been reinforced with 42 additional welding points and 2.1 meters of additional adhesive material for track performance. For those who enjoy feeling connected to their car, N e-shift simulates an 8-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission while N-Active Sound pumps curated sounds into the cabin. And yes you can turn both of these features off for a more casual driving experience. Additional IONIQ 5 N performance upgrades and features include:

• 3.4-second to 0-60 mph
• Front 15.7-inch rotors and 14.2-inch rear rotors. (The biggest brakes ever fitted in a Hyundai vehicle)
• Brake Cooling Ducts
• Battery pre-Conditioning for track sessions
• 21-inch forged wheels
• Regenerative Braking (0.6 g of deceleration)

I’ll be honest. Personally, the 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is the first EV to make me go “I would buy this car in a heartbeat.” Don’t get me wrong the IONIQ 5 and 6 are great cars, but even those award-winning cars took some time to get warmed up to. The IONIQ 5 N? Pfft, take my money now, please. Many car purists will most likely cringe and the simulated gearshifts and engine noises, but those can be turned off, and it’s great seeing Hyundai taking enthusiasts into consideration when developing the IONIQ 5 N. The IONIQ 5 N might not be for everyone, but it’s undeniable that Hyundai is one of the most innovative brands that actually listens to their customers.
