The All-New Hyundai KONA is Coming

Hyundai has recently been offering refreshed and redesigned models of their current vehicle lineup, and the Hyundai KONA is no exception. With an all-new design, interior, and a multitude of standard safety and driver assist features, the Hyundai KONA makes a formidable, viable option in the crowded compact SUV segment. Not every detail of the 2024 Hyundai KONA has been released, but here’s what we know so far about Hyundai’s iconic subcompact SUV.

2024 Hyundai KONA Release Date

According to Hyundai, the gas-powered 2024 Hyundai KONA will be available to the public in late 2023. The 2024 Hyundai KONA Electric will also be available, but only in limited numbers in select states. States include NC, VA, AZ, UT, TX, GA, FL, TN, AK, HI, CA, CO, CT, MA, MD, ME, MN, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, PA, RI, VT, and WA.

The 2024 Hyundai KONA enjoys many changes and updates to its interior, exterior, and technologies. Let’s dive in.

2024 Hyundai KONA Exterior Updates

Featuring a streamlined exterior, the 2024 Hyundai KONA boasts an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.27, combining aerodynamic efficiency and modern styling. According to Hyundai, the aerodynamic front and rear liftgate, along with the pronounced wheel arches all add to the aerodynamics of the 2024 Hyundai KONA.  But aerodynamics isn’t the only change. The most noticeable update is the front fascia which now features a Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp, a change seen in many of Hyundai’s recent refreshes.

In terms of dimensions, the 2024 Hyundai KONA is noticeably larger than the outgoing model. The gas-powered 2024 Hyundai KONA is now 171.3 inches in length (a 5.7-inch increase), 71.9 inches in width (a 1-inch increase), and features a wheelbase of 104.7 inches (2.3-inch increase).

2024 Hyundai KONA Interior Updates

The interior of the 2024 Hyundai KONA is more spacious,  thanks to the updated exterior dimensions. Dual 12.3-inch Panoramic Displays are new and standard on the 2024 KONA, allowing for improved visibility and ease of access to the infotainment controls. Controls have also been added to the steering wheel, freeing up space for a versatile multi-use center console storage compartment, now with a rotating cup holder.  Ambient lighting is also available, automatically changing colors depending on drive modes and user preference. Rear passenger space has also been improved, thanks to the front seats which are now 30% slimmer.

Cargo space is generous as the KONA delivers 25.5 cubic feet of rear cargo space, with a maximum of 63.7 cubic feet with rear seats folded down.

2024 Hyundai KONA Engine and Performance Updates

Regarding engine options, the 2024 Hyundai KONA is not much different than the outgoing model. The gas-powered 2024 Hyundai KONA will offer two fuel-efficient engine options. The standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinsons engine delivers 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, and paired with the Sarmtstream Intelligent Variable Transmission delivers maximum efficiency. As there are no engine changes to the 2024 model, we can expect 30/25 mpg in FWD and 28/33 mpg in AWD. These numbers may change due to the dimensional updates, but only time will tell.

The turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder makes a return and will be available for the 2024 Hyundai KONA N-Line trim. Outputting 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, fuel economy for this robust engine comes out to 29/35 mpg in FWD and 27/32 mpg in AWD.
